It is in this sense that we can say that volunteerism is one of the core areas and an ultimate expression of what GIEVA organization stands for.
According to Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General, United Nations "Voluntary action and volunteers add great value and will be indispensable in meeting the MDG targets. To succeed in advancing sustainable development in today's world, we need to share ideas and tap the ingenuity, solidarity and Volunteers and the creativity of millions of ordinary people. And indeed, each of us should make that personal decision to get engaged".

GIEVA Volunteer Advocacy Program (VAP) is designed to:
- Facilitate the preparing of new generation of youth to imbibe and appreciate "human share values" based on giving to others through volunteerism, and sharing of resources;
- Initiate formation of Volunteer Network Groups (VNG) in secondary and tertiary institutions to train the members in the skills of volunteerism and the transforming value of giving and sharing.
